Hayley Gritt was born on July 2nd 1984 and died on 7th December 2002 at the age of 18 due to a brain tumour. She was the daughter of former Charlton player and joint manager Steve Gritt. She had a brother called James who was almost two years younger.
Hayley was first diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of eight, in October 1992. She thankfully made a full recovery that time, Charlton old boys played a benefit match for Hayley, and other victims of brain tumours, against Millwall old boys on 9th May 1993. Sadly the problem recurred in 1999. Hayley fought it greatly but passed away in a hospice at 8am on the morning of the game against Liverpool. This was a game in which Charlton celebrated 10 years back at the Valley with a 2-0 win.
What a brave girl. I lost my partner to a brain tumour this year we need to help stamp out these silent killers any Idea for fund raising. god bless you and your family x

Hayley, you were so brave fighting that rotten thing. I still feel so sorry for your dad and the rest of your family. You were only seven months older than me.
